What is Transverse Myelitis?
Transverse Myelitis is a rare condition caused by an inflammatory process in the spinal cord.
This may cause a child numbness and weakness of their limbs and difficulties with their bladder and bowel functions.
Their symptoms will depend on the level of spinal cord that is involved and to what extent. Some children make a full recovery from these symptoms, some a partial recovery and some may have ongoing disability.
Specialist children's neuro-physiotherapy is a vital part of a child’s rehabilitation following transverse myelitis.
