Karen Hodgkinson - Kids' Physiotherapy LtdKaren Hodgkinson BSC (hons) MCSP, graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine with a BSC (hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 2000. Since that time she has worked in the NHS in a variety of settings.

Since 2004 Karen has worked in Neurosciences as an Advanced Physiotherapist at Birmingham Children's Hospital, initially as a full time member of staff and currently on a part time basis to fit alongside family life as the mother of two small children.

Working at a regional centre has given Karen a wealth of experience, specialist knowledge and valuable contacts. Karen has experience of treating babies, children and adolescents with cerebral palsy, traumatic and other acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injury, developmental delay amongst others, as well as many less commonly seen neurological and developmental conditions. Her current role includes the provision of specialist assessment and care to both hospital patients, children as outpatients and those who attend hospital school.

Karen has completed a variety of post graduate training courses and is an Accredited Paediatric Bobath trained Physiotherapist. Karen has attended training in the use of aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy), Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and well as a variety of specialist assessments and outcome measurements. Karen also has an interest in gait analysis and has worked alongside orthopaedic consultants in providing assessment and interpretation of children's gait at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre for children across the region. Karen uses these in depth assessment skills to supplement assessments of mobile children.

Karen has taught as an external lecturer on University of Birmingham Physiotherapy undergraduate programme and on a variety of other national courses on topics including acquired brain injury, normal development, serial casting and Functional electrical stimulation.

Karen is Health Professions Council (HCPC) registered, a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and has undertaken a full recent DBS (formally CRB) check. She is also a member of the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP), British Association of Bobath Trained Therapists (BABTT), Aquatic Therapy Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (ATACP), Association of Chartered Physiotherapist in Neurology (ACPIN) and Physio First. Karen has is trained to complete expert witness reports for legal cases and is a member of the Medico Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MLACP).

Karen more than anything enjoys working with children and their families. She brings her expertise to a treatment session, coupled with a dynamic, enthusiastic approach in order to maximise a child's potential.
